Graduate Program in Food Science (GP-Food) Director
Tomonori Nochi, Ph.D.
Professor, Graduate School of Agricultural Science
Welcome to our website of the Graduate Program in Food Science (GP-Food), an international interdisciplinary program launched in October 2024 organized by Graduate Schools of Agricultural Science, Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmaceutical Science, and Literature, and the International Center for Synchrotron Radiation Innovation in Tohoku University, with the aim of scientifically designing foods in the future. As various problems directly related to food production, such as population growth and global warming, are piling up on a global scale, GP-Food develops education and research on future foods from an unprecedented perspective to overcome future food-related obstacles. GP-Food provides multiple opportunities for participants from different graduate schools to engage in discussions about designing the food of the future.
GP-Food offers the opportunity to participate in an overseas training program on future food. 23 universities/institutions around the world that share the common goal of solving future food problems are participating in GP-Food as international collaborative partners. Program participants will be prepared to become front-runners in future food production based on the experience they gain from several activities conducted in GP-Food.
We hope that the industry will also take a keen interest in activities in GP-Food. We have considered the possibility of developing GP-Food as an industry-academia collaboration in the future. We would appreciate comments on activities in GP-Food from industry as well as academia.
